We really love to chat with a diverse range of guests on the show – from student pilots, private pilots, commercial pilots, flight planners, and regulators like NZCAA and CASA.
Most guests are invited to appear on the show.
If you think you would like to come on the Pilot Perspectives podcast and have a great story to tell – fill in the information at Register as a guest.
Please include a bio, some pictures and why you would like to come on the show. The more information you provide, the better.
Mark and Rach will then consider if we think you are a good fit for our podcast and if the recording schedule has space.
Businesses and aviation regulators are typically invited onto the podcast for an interview. However, if you are a business or an aviation regulator - and would like the opportunity to come on the show, please make this clear in your bio. Additional details will be provided.
Interesting fact: It takes about 10 hours of our time to prepare, record, edit and publish a 1 hour interview on the podcast! Just as well we love what we do!
Guest Checklist
Have a think through this short checklist before deciding to come on the show;
- Am I comfortable with the sound of my own voice?
- Am I a good communicator?
- Am I a good story teller, funny, introspective, thought provoking etc?
- Do I have a unique point of view?
- Am I happy to sign a Podcast Guest Release (PGR)? All guests need to read and sign our standard PGR.
Your Biography
We do not provide questions before the interview. Each conversation is different and develops naturally. The interviews tend to be biographical in nature or topic based (ie for regulators where a bio will be minimal but where additional information regarding the topic will be determined as required.)
You will likely be asked to provide a bio in the case of a biographical interview. This helps us craft the interview and lets us know where to ask questions. A one pager is sufficient. Please also include some relevant high quality pictures of yourself in an aviation context - perhaps in uniform. We will use these to promote the podcast episode. Please take the time to craft your bio, as this really helps us out. The sooner you can get this information to us the better. Please note - some guests will not need to submit a full bio - for example aviation regulators. if you are unsure - please email us.
Please include the following (as applicable) information in your bio:
- Where you grew up and your early experiences with aviation.
- What lead you into your career as a pilot.
- Where you did your flight training and any interesting experiences you had while training.
- Your subsequent flying jobs and locations. Please include some of the challenges you have faced and some of the rewards throughout your career.
- Some goals you have for the next steps in your career.
- We will also give you the opportunity to encourage others who are considering a career in aviation. It's a long hard road, so we really want to encourage those who are starting out. What would you say to them if you were in front of them?
We don't ask questions that will be difficult to answer. It's your story.
Don't worry about the interview not going 'perfectly'. We edit every episode, so any mistakes or conversational awkwardness can be edited out. We are not professional broadcasters either!
What equipment do you need to prepare for the interview?
Just a computer with Chrome installed, preferably with an external USB microphone. You will need an internet connection.
We use Squadcast to record from both of our computers. I will provide a web link that you can use to access the interview at the scheduled time. Easy.
Squadcast works with most browsers - best with Chrome. Unfortunately it doesn't work in Safari. We need to use the chrome browser on my Apple Mac when we record an interview. If you want more info on being a guest with squadcast - you can check out some more information here. But really - it is very simple to use. Squadcast is complete free and very easy to use. The audio quality is excellent - far better than using our mobile phones, so the podcast listeners will not have audio 'fatigue' from listening to our interview.
Web camera
If possible - please turn on your web camera for the interview when using squadcast. The video feed is NOT recorded, but it really helps to see each other when we have our interview and record the audio.
Interview Date
We will share some possible interview dates and times with you soon - once we have reviewed your bio and other information that you submit.
If you have any questions - please feel free to email us at podcast@pilotperspectives.com.
If you are ready to get started - please fill in the information at Register as a guest.
